Chapman, Richard Llewellyn "Llew" Jr.
Sep 1, 2017Llew) was born December 8, 1929, and died on August 21, 2017.He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Llewellyn, Sr., and Martha Shahan Chapman, his sister, Jean C. Kollmansperger, and young son, Paul Llewellyn Chapman (March 26, 1965 - July 20, 1974). Paul was a patient with leukemia at St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sara H. Chapman, son, Rick Chapman (Brenda) of Nolensville, daughter, Laura Chapman of Franklin, granddaughter, Ashley Chapman, grandson, Houston Chapman, and several nieces and nephews.Llew graduated from The McCallie School in Chattanooga in 1948 and Vanderbilt University in 1952. After serving two years as a lieutenant at Ft. Benning, Ga., he began a 39-year career in the Bell Telephone System. During his tenure in Memphis, Martin Luther King, Jr., was killed and Elvis Presley died. Llew assisted the news media with facilities on short notice to cover those events.Llew and his family were very active at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis and First Baptist Church Nashville. He was involved in many areas of church life. He faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher at both churches and was a Life Deacon at First Baptist. Llew greatly enjoyed greeting members and guests as they arrived for Bible study and worship.
